Thoughts on Playing Music

Being in a musical band is a unique experience. I have been very blessed to have been a part of three different bands over the past twenty years. Of course, these endeavors have had their ups and downs.

It does not get any easier as our current group deals with its own set of challenges. It's the great love of music and God that brings us together. We usually have a wonderful time when we are able to congregate and make music. With our little praise and worship band logistics can be a problem. Our members are scattered across central North Carolina and it is difficult to get everyone together. Add to that the family and career responsibilities, except for Sundays, we rarely are able to rehearse and learn new music. The good thing is this makes our times together enjoyable and precious. On many Sundays it is even difficult to get the whole group together. If we had more consistency we could really hone our craft. We will attempt to work on these challenges as we hope to soon establish a regular monthly practice, separate from the weekly Sunday morning rehearsal before each worship service.
